Tools of Work

  • Trauma-Informed Yoga

Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TCTSY) is an empirically validated, clinical treatment for chronic or complex trauma, treatment-resistant PTSD. Developed at the Trauma Center in Brookline, Massachusetts, TSY has foundations in Trauma Theory, Attachment Theory, and Neuroscience as well as Yoga practice with an emphasis on body-based yoga forms and breathing practices.

Neuropsychology and Anatomy of the body has helped me build a strong foundation on the human body structure and functionality.

Yoga is a powerful tool for self-knowledge, for managing one's emotions, it helps to alleviate stress and opens all the body's systems, physical, emotional, hormonal, etc.

  • Sensorimotor psychotherapy

    Sensorimotor Psychotherapy

Traditional psychotherapy addresses the cognitive and emotional elements of trauma but lacks techniques that work directly with the physiological elements, despite the fact that trauma profoundly affects the body and that so many symptoms of traumatized individuals are somatically driven. All of these clinical issues are inaccessible or difficult to treat in a talking therapy context without a way to include the bodily symptoms in treatment.

Sensorimotor Psychotherapy presents simple, body-oriented interventions for tracking, naming, and safely exploring trauma-related, somatic activation, creating new competencies and restoring a somatic sense of self. This approach utilizes effective, accessible interventions for identifying and working with disruptive somatic patterns, disturbed cognitive and emotional processing, and the fragmented sense of self experienced by so many traumatized individuals. It is a phase oriented treatment approach, focusing first on stabilization and symptom reduction towards holistic healing.

  • Neuropsequential Model of Therapeutics

Through the The Neurosequential model I applied a set of core concepts related to brain development, brain organization, the stress response and neuroplasticity (how the brain changes) to my treatment modality. Understanding the brain provided me with immediate practical applications as well as the necessary background required to better understand the neurodevelopmental principles involved in many of the struggles, as well as strengths, of the people I serve. Knowing how the brain works helps me assist you with your innate, ongoing capacity building to face life challenges.

  • Meditative Practices

    Meditative Practices

During meditative practices the action of the sympathetic division of the autonomic nervous system is suppressed creating a more relaxed physiological state as my clients move into deeper and extended states of relaxation and consciousness. Meditation can mediate the effects of stress and depression, and promote well-being. Meditation also increases self awareness and assists my clients to connect to themselves.

  • Play Therapy

Play therapy is a particularly appropriate approach to counseling children because play comes naturally to children. Through the manipulation of toys, children can show more adequately than through words how they feel about themselves, the significant people and events in their lives. This is because most children under the age of 10 have not yet developed the abstract reasoning skills and verbal abilities to sit in the counselor's office and be articulate about their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. During play therapy session, play patterns emerge which help therapist to develop the child's treatment plan. After a treatment has been develop Therapist works along with parents to assist child to improve their situation.

The kind of play therapy I work with includes Music Therapy as well as Art Therapy.

  • PACT

A psychobiological approach to Couple therapy. PACT is a fusion of attachment theory, developmental neuroscience, and arousal regulation to enhance communication and intimacy.

PACT It's a path to mutual respect, deep understanding, and unbreakable trust with your partner. PACT is a tool that can assist clients with having a more peaceful, harmonious relationship with their partners and family.

Insurance

I work with Blue Cross Blue Shield and Aetna.

I am considered “out of network” providers for other insurance companies.  If you would like to submit your claim to insurance, I will be happy to provide you with an invoice with the necessary information so that you can submit your own claim.

These are some reasons families choose not to use insurance:  Insurance companies require a diagnosis to file a claim.  Many clients do not need a diagnosis, they need support services or specific interventions that are not covered.  Insurance companies may also limit the amount of sessions they pay for.  This may impact the treatment received by a therapist.  Insurance companies often require a clinical review.  This breaks confidentiality and requires the therapist to disclose information that a client may or may not want to be disclosed.

You may be able to use flex accounts or HSA’s to pay for these medical expenses.  Check your policy to be sure.
